Guardians of the Grasslands Combat Conflict &

Climate Change

What You'll Get

Research Linking Conflict with Climate Change

Two guardians of the grasslands, Johanna Walderdorff and Audrey Molcho of LIOS-Soil Matters, will be our guides to help us understand the connection between conflict, desertification and climate change.

Climate change is exacerbating food and water shortages, particularly in desertifying areas of the world. This is creating hot spots, rife with conflict, that become tinderboxes for uprisings and wars which are followed by internal and external migrations.

With most current conflict zones being in countries battling desertification, building fertile soil needs to take a front row in peace negotiations and peace-keeping efforts.

Holistically-Informed

Solutions

Johanna and Audrey will present proven solutions to the problem of desertification. Their provocative presentation will invite us to:

  • Rethink the underlying root cause of conflict in war-torn areas.
  • Consider addressing desertification as a means of resolving and preventing conflict.
  • Consider including land restoration and farmer re-education in peace agreements.
